Sverigedemokraternas väljare är de som är mest kritiska, medan deras utländska motsvarigheter ofta är de som varit mest kritiska till restriktioner, och där konspirationsteorier om viruset och pandemin är vanligt förekommande.
When you take into consideration that Sverigedemokraterna is a party that doesn't care much for foreigners unless they stay out of Sweden, It has been astonishing to see the party criticize Sweden's pandemic response to a disease that kills foreigners disproportionately.
The first time I saw a political party in Sweden encourage wearing face masks, it was a local branch of SD. And one of the first whistleblowers about how the elderly were barred from hospital treatment was also mentioned as a member of SD.
However, the most radical defender of the Swedish strategy in the ISF thread, the one who got up in the middle of the night to post UN world coronavirus statistics before the Swedish numbers had been reported so that he could pretend that Sweden had zero new cases, he was also a self-confessed Sweden Democrat (and a former Social Democrat). Split between his nationalism and his party-political partisan thinking, I guess.
I think all Riksdag parties in Sweden bought into the Tegnellian and Gieseckian bravado about risk taking very early on, much like the Republicans bought into Trump's swagger. After that, they would have had to admit that they had been wrong in the first place if they spoke out against the consensus no matter how many lives were lost, so those lives weren't worth saving, they would have died anyway of other causes and probably did, and the Swedish disaster was all due to unfortunate circumstances that had nothing to do with the strategy and could be blamed on whatever occurred as an excuse to Tegnell on any given day: population density, percentage of old people, percentage of foreigners, degree of urbanization, international travel, all of which made no sense at all and was almost immediately abandoned again in favor of the Big Mystery:
How on earth could this have happened to Sweden,
of all countries? Maybe we'll know someday many, many years from now when we have all died with
something - or other.
